Settling back into it

Hello you yummy things!

My weekend was pretty chilled.. I spent a lot of time with Immy and her family, including her son Rapha who is 2 and sooo cute! It has been nice to have the weekend free as I was able to catch up on sleep and settle back in ready to start work again.

I had such a lovely welcome from the guys at the Autism Centre... some of the kids remembered me and ran up for a big hug, it was lovely to reunite with staff and kids. Yesterday I felt like I was living in a dream lol it felt as though I had never been away but yet I had and still had to adjust slightly to the culture here and remember how laid back everything/one is haha

In the evening two girls from the slums came round and we had sooo much fun I was so excited to see them! After massive hugs and the general how are you how is yasmin and colin etc they started to express their concern for their dad who is mentally ill and struggling physically with sickness at the moment.. they spoke with great sadness and fear in their eyes as they told how their dad is not being well looked after and they feel it is too much for their dad to survive. Its so difficult hearing these stories and not knowing what to say.. I guess just listening and giving comfort is helpful in itself as they are not very open with others. We prayed together and you prayers would be very much appreciated!

I took the girls to the internet cafe and have set them up with an email account and started teaching them simple computer things, beginning with 'this is a mouse and this is how you use it'. Im hoping to take them to the internet regularly so they feel confident enough to send emails and look for information and jobs on the net by the time I am gone.. its not too expensive to use for half an hour and will hopefully come in handy for them.

We then spent some time reminising and laughing over dinner.. Aidah talked about eating grasshoppers and she is going to get me some to try... apparantly they taste sweet haha we shall see!

Today I crammed back into the matattu taxi and found it highly amusing watching fully grown men practically sat on eachothers laps to try ad fit as many people as possible in.. good tiiiimes! I felt a lot more present today and enjoyed working with the kids one on one.. its really what these kids need, just some one to dedicate time to get to know and understand them and learn how to communicate with them on their level.. I really felt as though I bonded with two of the children with autism today.. one kid who is normally so hyperactive and is shown little attention at home just sat with me and we explored movement together and he really calmed down. Another boy has just moved from the UK to Uganda and can be aggressive but I spent some time with him just playing and singing.. as he listened to me sing he soon realised he recognised them and jumped and jumped with a huuuge smile because he was hearing something familiar.. he actually knew quite a few of the words I was very impressed and you could see the praise I gave him did him so much good.. he very happy and interactive it so was so lovely. I am looking forward to going back tomorrow.

I forgot how loud is it on the streets here.. the music booms until at least 2am and I can hear everything through my thin windows.. plus with mozi's buzzin round my ears I found it difficult to sleep.. Im sure I will get used to it... I woke up and jumped in the shower expecting it to be lovely and warm.. totally forgetting it was ice cold haha you should have seen me arching my back just enough to get my hair wet enough to shampoo haha oh dear... oh yeh I was moved from my first room because it had a leaking sink and a sticky lock.. so Ive exchanged it for a room with no bathroom light or toilet seat haha its going to take them ages to fix it I can see it now no matter how much I am on their case.. its all in african time!

Anyways its 6.50pm and the sun is starting to go down so I better get back to the guesthouse.. love you all x mmmmmmmmwaaaah x
