The Re-vamp

Woohooooooo finally got internet connection!!! You dont know how happy I am right now! Ive sat in so many internet cafe's failing to get connection and getting more and more frustrated but today it works! Yaaaaaaaaaaay! Tia is smiling :D good tiiiiiiimes

Ok so I guess we have a lot to catch up on...

At the end of last week I continued with the work in the slums and was being shown around by a family who live in the slums but work for Hope.. Oh my gosh the ladies daughters were amaaaazing.. soooo switched on! They have experienced so much and hold such strong morals and beliefs, its admirable..plus they have very high ambitions... so I believe if they were given the right support they could really go far.. one girl is about 12 and still has no sponsor so she cannot continue with schooling... its about 50-100quid a term to allow a child to go to school and provide uniform and resources.. its so tempting to help them. I asked the girls what they were doing on the weekend and they just laughed in response.. like they were saying as if we could ever do anything with our weekend because activities require money.. we gave them the equivalent of 6pound which allowed their whole family to get to the beach for the day AND have food.. 6pound.. thats nothing to us... but it's a big family bonding and relaxation sesh for them.. madness..

On the weekend we went to Jinja to see the source of the Nile... it was pretty chilly actually but the views were beautiful when we boated it around.. we got a lush group picture on big rock too which is kooool I shall have to show you guys. Im feeling a lot more settled here.. it all feels a bit homely now.. even doing everyday shopping n all sorts!.. Everyone is coming down ill though.. mainly sore throats and swollen glands, but Colin has got it pretty bad with a chesty cough and fever so hopefully he'll get better soon or he will need to be checked out.. here even if you have the flu they demand you go to hospital whereas us English just get some pills from the pharmacy and claim we will be fine in a few days lol.. hopefully everyone will be top notch again soon!

This week I have been painting Good Will School.. mainly a light blue colour with black trimmings, colourful numbers and the alphabet... which has been fun.. although typically I get all the tricky jobs of making a big roller with a stick so I can reach the high bits since I'm the tallest haha yeah thanks guys.. I'll just have neck ache and paint dripping on my face its fine... haha.. it was fun though especially when we had a paint fight..oh my gosh I got covered in it! It entertained the local kiddies too... 'Crazy English Musumguz' haha!

Today I was teaching dance in Mengo Youth Centre.. a lot of the kids there are from Congo originally.. For example this one girl's mum and dad both died in the civil war so her uncle took her to Uganda... and she doesn't know what has happened to her brothers or sisters... we asked her why she wasn't joining in with the drama or dance so much today and she explained that she feared her Uncle so would rather not go home and she has no money to buy food... so we bought her some food. Other kids have no parents as they have both died of AIDS so they are orphans living in the slums......

****Oh yeah just side tracking slightly its mad how popular child sacrifices are here... for example there is one family who ran out of money to build their house so was told by a witch doctor to kill and bury a child within the foundations of their house to become rich! How wrong is that! When warning children about risks and dangers here they include child kidnap and sacrifices! Thats just completely out of the English world isnt it... imagine being brought up with all that fear as a child.****

Back to the track...I reeeally enjoyed teaching dance again today and the kids picked it up so well it was amazing! One girl said that they have been desperate for someone to come and start up a dance and singing school and that she is currently looking for a venue.. she said that she has people in England who she met who are willing to pay for a venue's rent and asked me whether I would set the school up for the evenings and be their dance teacher, as its one thing they are really passionate about and would really keep the communities spirits up.. I said I would think about it and stay in touch via email.. its tempting to stay here longer and get a job maybe developing the special needs centre here during the day and then teaching dance in the evenings.. there is just so much I could do here to really make a difference.

I've heard you guys have been awesome with giving packages to be sent out here for the kids and families! Thankyou Thankyou Thankyouuuuuuuuuuu its seriously the biggest help everrrr I cannot express how grateful everyone is out here. Your star's!

Biiiiiiiiiig Tia lovin for all of you.... xxxxxxxx......oh yeah and Beth I'm sending you soooo much wedding love right now I'm sooo sorry I cant be there but I'm thinking of you loads and wish you both the best future together everrrrrrrrrrrr
