Sorry for moaning yesterday. It's like a different world here. Things are never as smooth sailing as in the UK, but that's what you get when you are working in a developing country.
I feel a lot better about things today. We went to look at a district called Wakiso, which is 19 miles out of Kampala. Within Wakiso there is a lovely village called Kakiri which has a 'family feel' to it, without the risky hustle and bustle of inner city madness. We found a beautiful spot of land deep within this village's countryside, surrounded by trees and crops. The land is flat, fertile and has a good water source. It would be a perfect place to set up the new project.
It is a bit more pricey than we would like, so we currently could only afford 3 acres but there are 9 acres available. Right now we have to ensure we go down the correct legal route to buy the land as I do not want to buy land until we are set up as a UK charity and sorted legally in Uganda also. Therefore, there is a risk that the land could go whilst all this paperwork is being sorted so please pray that the land will still be there for us.
We then jumped on the back of a boda boda and had another meeting with a guy who is in charge of NGO's in Uganda.
It was a very successful meeting and we have received legal advice as to how best to buy the land. The main thing we want to ensure is that money will be spent correctly, so accountability must be strictly kept. In the meeting, we found a way to make this a legal requirement for the charity, which I feel a lot more comfortable with. I won't bore you all with it but it is all getting very exciting and it's seeming a lot more possible!
I am determined to provide these youth orphans with a better place :)
Here are a few cute kids we walked past, watching TV from a local shop:
