How can you help?

I am going to start this post with two songs which were written by Eunice, aged 17, who lives in the slums of Uganda:
----------------------------------------------------
Title:
No More Suffering

Chorus:
No more suffering
No more struggling
No more pain
Enough is enough to toiling
There is a hero to save us.

Verse 1:
The little ones orphaned
Sexually abused, mistreated
Oh what a shame
Don't know what tomorrow holds
Nothing to eat, Nothing to put on
Bins are their plates
We would love to see our tears wiped away
We would love to see our cries come to the end

Verse 2:
Many years we've had no parental love
No shelter
Our homes being the streets
Scotched by the sun, showered by the rain
And the wind, misery misery all along
We would love to see our tears wiped away
We would love to see our cries come to the end

-----------------------------------------------------------

Title:
We Can Join As One

Chorus:
We can join as one
And help the suffering children
They can live a better life
If we develop their future
ooooh they can live a better life

Verse 1:
There are many suffering children
They have no one to care for them
They live a poor life
But we can join as one
Let us change their lives

Verse 2:
They feel lonely, if they are denied
They have no-where to run to
If they have a need
Tears are their daily food
Please join as one
And do something for them

------------------------------------------------------------

I think these words, written by a girl who has seen so much suffering from birth, says everything. None of our children would ever write a song like this. There is a huge cry for help coming from the young generation in the slums of Uganda. They need our help and considering we all have a roof over our heads and food on our table every day, I know we are all in a position to help in some shape or size.

I have been looking through the interviews which we did with the boys in the Mydel Home and there are some boys who still in a sponsor, to enable them to attend school.  I am going to highlight these boys to you, so if anyone feels they would like to help they can just email me straight away: tiarna4jc@hotmail.com

1) Brian, aged 14.
Brian is one of the originals in the home. His parents both died of a car accident when he was 9 so he went to stay with his grand mother. His grand mother was mistreating him so he ran away to the streets at the age of 10, living on piles of rubbish, where he scrounged around to find scrap metals to sell. He has been fortunate enough to have had a sponsor for the past 2 years but his sponsor is no longer able to support him, leaving Brian midway through his GCSE year. He would like to complete his exams and continue in school for another 2 years to complete his A Levels, with the ambition of being a mechanic. Would anyone like to help him gain the education his deserves? It would be £50 a term = £150 a year.

2) Nasif, aged 17.
Nasif's parents died during war when he was 2. His grandmother looked after him for a while but them became too old to look after him and pay for his school fees. He has just completed his A level year on a football scholarship but is now in need of a sponsor to help him go to University for 2 years to study Computer Engineering. It would be £150 a semester = £300 a year.

3) Rasto, aged 15.
Rasto's parents died of sickness, leaving him orphaned at the age of 9. His grandmother died of old age, leaving Rasto to join the Mydel Boys home in May this year. Because of this, he is behind in his schooling so still has 4 years to go but would love to be a Doctor. Redondo has been teaching football at his school for free on the basis that the school allows Rasto to study, but this is leaving Redondo without a salary. Would anyone like to sponsor Rasto for £50 a tearm = £150 a year?

4) William, aged 11.
Williams parents died of HIV, leaving him orphaned at the age of 6. He had no-one to pay his school fees so he was struggling for years, with only his football talent to rely upon. He also joined the home in May this year and currently Eric (one of the helpers to the home) is paying half of his fees, leaving Eric also struggling for money. The other half of his school fees is covered on the basis that his school agrees to keep him due to his football talent, which is reviewed and on the rocks each term. He needs someone to take on his school fee of £50 a term so that he can have security in knowing that he will go going to school each term.

There are some more boys who are currently relying on the hope that their school will allow them to study, due to their football talent. Each term is uncertain for these boys as the school could easily drop them because they are not paying school fees. Therefore, there are more boys in need so if you would like to be a sponsor please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Thankfully, some one has kindly come forward to sponsor Francis, the brother of Solo, who I wrote about previously. He is now able to live in The Mydel Boys Home with his brother, with the security of shelter, food and education. He is so so happy and I would love to give similar news to other boys.

For those computer whizzes, we still have not been able to put the boys on the computer course due to funds so if anyone would like to make a one-off payment of £50, to enable the boys to improve their computer skills during the summer holidays, please press donate and I know the boys will be very grateful!

One of the biggest needs in the home at the moment is school materials. Children in Uganda not only have to pay for their own school fees but also have to bring their own paper and stationary to school each day. This mounts up for 25 boys as they require new books and pads of paper each term. £80 would cover the needs of ALL the boys in the home each term. If anyone would like to fund school materials each term, it would solve a lot of problems. Thank you.

Also, the boys would love football boots. I know this doesn't sound like a necessity but for those who are only being allowed in school due to their football talent, a pair of football boots to enable them to play in matches is essential. I was wondering whether anyone has any old boots or has any contacts of footie people who could help? Perhaps we could fly our old ones over? Let me know what you think: tiarna4jc@hotmail.com

Finally, we need to fundraise £6,000 for land plus more for a building if we are going to expand and improve living conditions. The land would be 5 acres: 1acre for buildings (housing for the orphaned youth, kitchen, bathroom, church and dance studio), 1 acre for a football pitch, 2 acres for growing food and 1 acre for keeping animals. The aim is to enable the Mydel Home to be self-sufficient, so that they are no longer reliant on charity. If any one has any fundraising ideas please get in touch.

I know this sounds like a long list of needs but I hope you can see how much the boys lives have changed already and that's all down to you. You are giving the boys a future they didn't even dare to dream of when they were living rough on the streets, wondering whether they would find food each day. The boys are the happiest I have ever seen them and I cannot thank you enough for all your support.

Thank you! From The Mydel Boys and Staff, Matt and myself xxx

Love you lots xxx
