Long time no speak as I had taken a few months out to consider my next move/plan and here it is....
Developing the Mydel Residential Home for Orphaned Youth!
After spending time with the youth in Mydel and seeing what amazing passion they have to learn and develop it was hard to hear that many of them were orphans/refugee's living in the slums with no secure living place.. some living as vulnerable children on the streets where child abuse is rife and others house hopping and struggling to find their next meal.. not a stable environment for them to grow up in that all!
I couldnt just come back to my 'hunky-dory' life without helping, so I have been putting money aside monthly and paying rent for a house in Mengo.. it currently holds 21 orphan boys but, although I have been able to fund matresses for them, the house is not fully furnished and there is still a big need for food, medical treatment and general household necessities.
Soooooo... Im going back! This Tuesday actually as the flight prices and dates work out better..
My aim is to:
- Visit the house, spend time getting to know the boys living there and to find out their specific needs
- Establish what the main needs are and use the money kindly donated by Brislington Fellowship (biiiiiiiig thankyouuuuuuu) to buy what is needed
- I would also like to find a decent space where Mydel can practise in
- Make contacts and find ways to raise funds
I mainly want to spend the whole two weeks focusing on the home and making sure the youth have a safe and comfortable living environment with everything they need to survive.... I dont intend to do much dance teaching.. although if I have time I may help them develop what they have already created.
So thats the plan! I fly out over Tuesday 29th June night and arrive Wednesday morning! I will be back blogging again as regular as possible!
