Me again!
I know I said my next post would be in Uganda but I've got to share this with you...
Ever since I've been working as an agency worker I have met so many new people and a lot of people from Africa. The other day was my last shift, it was an over night shift so as I was dropping the pupils off at College in the morning, I said goodbye and explained to them that they wouldnt see me for a few weeks as I'm off to Africa. The support worker who I was handing over to heard this... first questioning whether I was going over for the football (which made me laugh... no chance now that we are out!.. anyway..) I was able to tell him about what I am doing in Uganda and he then explained that there was a pottery teacher in the College who was Ugandan!
I was introduced to this Ugandan teacher.. his name is Sam.. and it was soooo encouraging! Sam has been trying to develop a project near Entebbe for years.. he supports a community of young adults in which they learn skills to be self sufficiant.. such as farming, cooking, making coal stoves and bread ovens, as well as craft making. He was sooo generous and gave me loads of names and numbers of people who I can get in contact with in Uganda, who could help teach Mydel youth skills to help them fend for themselves and also keep the project sustainable.. how exciting is that! I am definately going to take him up on it and arrange a link between Mydel project and his community project... It sooo cant be just a coincidence that I 'bumped' into him!
Alsoooooo.... I have been writing a list of the things which I think the Mydel home may need and was considering giving the boys a day/ruck sack each to keep their things in... I did a bit of ringing around trying to find free or discounted bags to take out but had no luck, until Dad decided to check the shed.... only a few minutes later dad came out with a large black bin bag full of day-sacks! We counted them out and their were exactly 21 bags! Exactly how many boys there are in the home! Perfect!
Its all falling into place.. things are just presenting themselves to me... very encouraging and very exciting!
Fly out tomorrow! Lets hope I can get at least get some sleep tonight!
xxxx
