Oh my gosh can you believe I have been writing this blog for over a year now! Its gone so fast and so much has happened!
For all those new to the blog who want to know how the whole project started or how I survived car crashes, hikes in dress and flipflops, riots and bombs then I suggest you get a big pot of tea on the go, put your feet up and click through my older posts under the 'catch up' section to the right :D I might even paste some piccies into the classics! Oooh and do become a follower.. I know there are quite a few of you out there reading.. no pressure Tiarna!
Since I've been back I've remained in great communication with the boys.. I phone them every Friday at 6pm and speak to as many boys as possible.. they sound so happy! It made me melt when one of the boys came on and said 'Madam Tia, we even eat breakfast now!' in the most excited and grateful little voice ever! I guess all our lives have changed a lot this past year..
Thanks to you lovely people the boys are now settling in to their new home and I have just sent out the next batch of donations which catered for three boys schooling, 3months rent, water and food supply for 3months, a gesture of thanks to Eric and Redondo, 21 bibles and money for resources, craft and medication :D
I ensure I receive all receipts so I can keep on top of everything and can certify the full amount of your donations go to where you wish. Please share the page with others and donate whenever you can... some of the younger boys only need £12 per term to go to school!
Dennis has now completed his time at Dewe and is returning to Mengo at the end of the week. I have kept in good contact with him and have heard great reports on his progress.. he has learnt very well and can now use the farm, bake wedding/birthday cakes and craft chairs! I have organised for Joe to now mentor him in the ways of business so he will be able to stand on his own two feet and make a living without support or charity. Rachel is still mastering the cake business and is apparantly doing soooo well! If only we could fly cakes over to the Uk!
As for me, I returned to my agency work in social care and have been busy organising Mydel... I'm currently trying to find shoes to send out with the football kits...I need 21 black daps and 21 football boots.... can anyone help or know of any contacts?
Next week I will be going back to Uni to do a PGCE Teaching Course which I'm hoping will be a wise move as I'll have a profession under my belt which I can use anywhere... This year has taught me just how important education is.. especially in countries like Uganda!
I will still take time out of my study books and lesson plans to help the Mydel Boys Home with sponsorships and donations. Unfortunately, becoming a student again means it may be difficult to fly back out any time soon, although I would loooove to treat the boys for Christmas! I also have to be careful as the elections kick off next year so it may be quite dangerous for a female muzumgu to bop about on her own during this time.. I'll just keep an eye on things and go when its safe!
Please keep praying, donating, spreading the word and reading as this is by no means the end.. just the beginning perhaps!
Lots of Tia Lovin Just For You,
me xxx
